QUESTION:

Read the following thought experiment by the French mathematician Emile Borel, to test the claim that randomness can result in some form of order. Imagine a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time. It will almost surely type a given text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare. Do you think this claim (that randomness can result in some form of order) be empirically tested and verified?

MY ANSWER: yes it can.


so the hypothesis is that randomness can result in some form of order, by hitting keys at random, a given text can be typed.


so instead of starting with the problem with a long text, we start with short words, for example a 3 letter word. with 26 possibility because of alphabets, we take 26^3=17576


meaning for a specific 3 letter word to be produced, when randomly pressing the keys, chances of it getting the 3 letter word that we want is 1 out of 17576.




we can use that to test in the experiment, by randomly pressing 3 keys then recording the results.


since this claim can be tested empirically, it means that it can be verified.
